Make a unique sustainable silk camisole, dyed and patterned with botanicals, with Alice Holloway and Zoë Burt. Create a garment in your size and explore natural dyeing and patterning using a heritage dye plant or seasonally foraged plant material. Students will be introduced to concepts of sustainability and ethical fashion in business and localism. The silk is Majestic silk, grown and woven in UK The cost of materials is included in the course fee.

SEASONAL NATURAL DYEING SUMMER

Morley College, Waterloo Centre

Research seasonal natural dyeing on sustainable fabrics. Explore contemporary natural dye practise globally and links to ritual, medicine and folklore. Utilise plants from the Morley dye garden. Develop with support an individual project to showcase your design development.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
• Learn about and plant dye plants and harvest from the Morley College dye garden
• Experiment with a summer seasonal natural dye palette on a range of fibres
• Explore natural dye printing
• Develop an individual project for a textile artwork, fashion application or interior design
• Research, discuss and use sustainable fabrics
• Complete a book of plant colour swatches with recipes and suppliers
