Learn to mix natural dye print pastes and apply and fix design techniques to fabric swatches. Explore a range of processes using natural dye extracts, kitchen waste and colour modifiers to create pattern through stencils and polychromatics. Build a small portfolio with recipes to further knowledge in this exciting field of colour.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
• Learn how to mix print pastes with botanical print extracts
• Explore design using simple paper stencils to screen print
• Discover how to layer colour and play with colour modifiers
• Understand how to fix prints
• Come away with recipes, tests and small fabric sample swatches (A3) to build confidence in this area

Textile Alchemy

Looking forward to curating this textile show by the talented Advanced Textile Workshop students from Morley College responding to the magic of natural dyeing, the revelations of printing and the mysteries of textile construction. Themes transformed include the River Thames, road markings and personal journeys. Techniques involve surface design, hand crafting and machine stitch, felting and applique.
