Our workshops bring together a unique experience inspired by nature and the positive energy of the the beautiful island of Nisyros. Together with the artists behind the book Nature Journal, you will create and collect material to explore in different art and craft techniques inspired by the land and the season.

The workshops have been set up for beginners and art professionals to inspire, motivate and reconnect with nature. During the workshops we will introduce you to techniques which make use of the natural elements on the island. We will explore beaches, forage plants and respectfully gather materials for inspiration and use.

Nisyros is a small  volcanic island in Greece, in the middle of the Dodecanese complex, it is said to have emerged after a series of successive eruptions. The island is renowned for its natural beauty and a rich cultural heritage.

18 & 19 July 2022 I Summer Cyanotype I Morley College

Experiment with guided techniques to make unique and beautiful images using this exciting process. Over 2 days, learn to prepare a cyanotype recipe and apply directly to paper and fabric. The course investigates historical and current creative practice in this field

17 July 2022 I Botanical Ink Workshop Urban Growth | London

Use kitchen botanical waste, foraged material, plant extracts and other ingredients to mix colours. Enjoy being creative in a friendly group. Take home postcards made with your own drawings and patterns together with recipe ideas to make your own inks.

Explore chromatic energy, connect to nature and our environment. No experience necessary, beginners welcome.

Learn to mix natural dye print pastes and apply and fix design techniques to fabric swatches. Explore a range of processes using natural dye extracts, kitchen waste and colour modifiers to create pattern through stencils and polychromatics. Build a small portfolio with recipes to further knowledge in this exciting field of colour.

Enjoy connecting with others and the elements to create a foundation of creative ideas to spring from. This course will deepen your connection to nature and encourage you to try out exciting methods to develop unique new works. Your Nature Journal book will be a useful resource to work in alongside further experiments on paper and fabric.

By the end of the course you will have gained confidence in creating colours from nature on fabric, learnt to prepare a light sensitive solution and how to apply it successfully to make cyanotype prints and deepened your knowledge of process and practice in seasonally connected activities.
